Good stuff, mojo. Each party apparently defines freedom as "the freedom to do what we think is correct?" When Democrats are in power (as we will be again soon :))they also enjoy pontificating and legislating on a variety of issues as if their positions were the only ones, and of course, "the truth." Democrats do, it seems to me, tend to be more tolerant of diverse views. However, I have to admit I'm biased and may well be doing the inverse of today's Republicans: Seeing the world through my views and not as objectively as I may need to. No Republican would ever admit that he/she might be wrong on an issue, and for me this is the one clear difference between the parties. Enjoyed thinking about your question. Anyhow, loved the ballot.
