[J] PROOF THAT WE GIVE THE ELDERLY TOO MUCH?

[+] joke ballot by Cathexis
created Fri May 13, 05

On May 11, 2005, a 70-year old woman fell out of a ninth-story window in Fort Lauderdale, but escaped serious injury.

Should Congress consider this incident as an excuse to make further cuts to Medicare?

Yes: Surviving a *9* story fall shows government excess
No: Don't even joke like that; those idiots on the Hill may do it

COMMENTS:
If the elderly can survive a fall like that, then they don't need any help from the government.

But seriously, I'm not aware that anyone feels the elderly gets too much aid. I certainly don't feel that way.

Ah, ceejjj ... that is because, unlike the extremists who have hijacked your party, you have a sense of honour.

Call me a "stick in the mud," but this "joke ballot" points to a serious problem in America.

Conservatives love to cite extreme examples and ridicule things they don't support as the rule (i.e, "welfare cadillac," "welfare queen," et al.). And when they favor something, they do the opposite (i.e. "subsidies" which help corporations gouge the public, "pork barrel" projects to aid their wealthy supporters, and on and on.): they sell these as "patriotic," "the right thing to do," and "progress" for America.

Ceeejjj's first remark on this ballot is obviously intended as humor, but the sad truth of it is that conceptually similiar remarks are made by government officials these days. And they aren't kidding around.

An even sadder truth is that the victims of such misrepresentations and lies are manipulated into supporting subsidies, programs, and policies that victimize them.

Okay, already! I'm off the soap box.

Thanks for providing the grist for my obviously obviously underworked mill.

Seriously, get rid of it.

And they might decide to perform some black-ops experiments on the woman, in order to learn how she was able to survive. You know, the rich would pay a king's ransom for that...
