WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE QUOTE BELOW BY DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER?

[+] ballot by mojo
created Sat May 14, 05

"Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again...

There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes you can do these things. Among them are H.L. Hunt, a few other Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional politician or businessman from other areas.

Their number is negligible and they are stupid."

President Dwight D.Eisenhower, 1952

He was right, and the statement has deafening resonance now.
He was wrong; furthermore it doesn't apply to today's situation.

Didn't we have something like this the other day? If you are trying to convince the conservatives of something on this site, then you are barking up the wrong tree. They are so brainwashed, it is a lost cause. We've been in the war on terror longer now than we were in WW2, but we can't find an overly tall arab needing dialysis, they oppose national health care even though 50 million Americans have none and every other industrialized country has it at half the price (and with equivalent care), a president who has run this country into more debt than any other, they also think the media is liberal (when it is obviously pro-war and pro-business), and the favorite politician to hate is Clinton, who was well to the right of Nixon. They are also the people who believe that people on disability are cheating in wild numbers (when the average benefit is $512 a month), that BOTH union members and CEOs are overpaid, that real wages have been falling for years, that any kind of protection for the average worker is negotiated in congress or the WTO. Have I made my point?

Um, if I were to find a quote by a famous democrat denouncing social security and other big government programs, would the liberals on this site change their minds about those issues? Yeah, I didn't think so either.
by herzog on Sat May 14, 05 9:47am [+]

Hmm, I'm going to do that I think.

Since I don't really get your point, I would rather say this: I can't agree with a guy who get elected only because he was a war hero, but become a war hero because of some people like Patton, Bradley or Montgommery. The great Ike never won a battle as a field commander in its entire life.

How much humanity would it take from you tards to realize that someone needs to secure our care of old and disabled people? And someone clearly needs to sometimes stand between citizens and the giant corporations? Who owns your souls you pigs?

Republicans and mainstream conservatives are in favor of social security, unemployment insurance, labor laws and farm programs. I guess that must explain their success.

Yesterday's ignorant splinter extremists ... today's political majority.

Cath: the founders of this nation wouldn't have agreed with mister eisenhower, I guess they were fringe lunatics who should be ignored?
