COMMENTS:
I believe that Congress has to pass a law to govern pro sports with a drug abuse/steroids program. Although some sports take this matter more seriously than others, and are more pro active about it, others have done little. An outside agency needs to be set up to govern the policies and have the authority to act with enforcement/penalties. I think that sports like the NFL have been more out in front with the issue. With MLB, NBA, and the NHL far behind them. I feel that without an outside body to oversee and act, the leagues lose legitimacy and respect of it fans. Although, I do believe that the league officials and team owners along with the clean players want a level playing field. I believe that each one deep down feels that if someone is cheating in the game they play, they hope that it’s for their team and that he doesn’t get caught.
I feel like the Congress can act if they want to. They are after all the Congress. I would like to see Congress follow a path of more meaning to more Americans though and I fail to see how having hearings on steroids in baseball really matters in the grand scheme of things.
I agree that players who use steroids should be banned from MLB and from the hall of fame but congress should NEVER get involved in these matters. Let baseball police itself.
I agree thc
Congressional athletes SHOULD NOT be allowed to use steroids
I believe that Congress needs to solve the problems of poverty, unemployment and affordable health-care before sticking its collective into the sports industry. yes, what's happening is awful, and it provides our kids with lousy role models, but Congress has a greater responsiblity to care for the issues that are more important to the most people.
Baseball is the all American game, so I think there is an incentive to clean house and try to save a national pastime from corruption and media scrutiny. Well good luck with that. It would be nice to see that kind of political zeal aimed at olympic athletes too.
