The French wine industry has suffered greatly do to American boycott. The French government had to donate money in order to help them out.
It worked for some of those behind the boycotting such as The "reverend" Jackson Ka-ching,ka-ching $$$
It worked in Cinncinati over something - some policy (can't remember), so people pressured groups and businesses not to have their conventions there and it worked. The policy got changed.
Cesar Chavez led a very successful boycott. They got about 17 million Americans to participate in a grape boycott. The farm workers got a collective bargaining agreement, etc.
Also the boycotts and pressure on companies investing in the apartheid South Africa, That certainly helped.
There were also the bus boycotts led by MLK. That one was very successful (my brain is working now).
lol, nice job Fiddle and everyone else who has responded to this ballot.
Definitely worked in South Africa. But, no, unless there is a concerted effort you only end up hurting the little people who end up getting laid off.
All boycotting does is give the situation more attention and a higher profile.
Peoples boycotting of fast food restaurants, have seen their profits plunge, so people power works. If everyone didthe same to Wal Mart and their ilk, it can only help the worker and consumer in the long run.
