The new military junta would give them 48 hours to leave, folowed by 'Shock and Awe!!' Oh hang on .....
They wouldn't. The odds of that happening are very, very slim, if non-existent. Our military would never turn on its own government or people. Besides, Congress would simply move to impeach him before it came to that, which it wouldn't.
The odds are very, very slim, but not ever off the cards. Tempers are fraying in the Pentagon, even more than two or three years ago.
Members of the US military have sworn an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic. They also are sword to obey every order of the President of the United States.
Military personnel have an obligation and a duty to only obey Lawful orders and indeed have an obligation to disobey Unlawful orders, including orders by the president that do not comply with the UCMJ. The moral and legal obligation is to the U.S. Constitution and not to those who would issue unlawful orders, especially if those orders are in direct violation of the Constitution and the UCMJ.
If their in the military for that long they really are patriotic people and it's ingrained in them.
Yes, it is Dani. But they're only human, too.
Well, as far as I have ever been able to tell from history, which of course is necessarily biased, there has never been a credible threat from that sector of public life. I don't think the people would stand for that. No matter how you fall on the political spectrum the idea that the military is subordinate to the civil is inviolate. If the military took over, I would take up arms against them. Now do you see why it is important to be able to defend yourself. Maybe all the liberal, anti-gun nuts will suddenly have a change of heart about all those "right-wing nutjobs" that have supported the right to bare arms.
Such and action would be put down quickly. There are safeguards against it in place.
if I were in uniform now, and I came across the makings of such, I'd act as soon as I could to quell the affair. And we ALL know what I think of Mister Bush. Pathetic he is as POTUS, but he's still the duly elected head of our government. Any insurrection would weaken us in the eyes of the world.
So would someone I'm very, very close to, but there are bad feelings rippling through the ranks right now in some quarters. Not mutiny exactly, but a great dis-ease.
The military overwhelmingly voted for Bush, whatever you think you know is bullshit zig.. I bet you are a conspiracy freak.
Zig, so you know one malcontent? There is only one constant in the military and that is the troops bitch and kvetch. Life goes on. If the military attempts to take over our government they better be prepared to fight and kill the Americans that will oppose them. Besides there is more of a chance that the military will take over England, Germany, France, or Russia than there is a chance that they will take over the US. You know why? Because all of those countries have a precedent for being cowed by their military leaders. Americans don't.
Obi Wan Kenobi: And you obviously are one of the new breed of vacuous dittoheads overrunning this site who assume what they don't understand: which is a great deal.
Inter_regnum: Are you in the military? If not you have no right to criticize those who are. They have earned the right to bitch and kvetch as you call it, although the majority of those who sense something is amiss at the upper levels have the self-discipline to suffer in silence. Because of that same discipline, there will never be a coup, of course, but if there ever were it would be a last-ditch effort to preserve whatever the USA still stands for in terms of constitutional values. And real patriots would recognize that fact and salute them.
OK, I'm done with this ballot. Squabble amongst yourselves. Have fun.
