Purple Haze, though one of the all-time greats, isn't as relevant for me as the Rain. One critic hailed the song as "the magnum opus of the 80's generation". I won't argue with that. But I WILL throw in my CD and crank it up to police-response volume, though.
Hendrix music is timeless and still appealing after 35 years. I don't think the same will be said of Prince's music after 35 years.

It's cooler to pick Purple Haze but I vote for Purple Rain anyway, Prince might be wierder but he really can play the guitar. They're both anthems.
