BRAWNY IRISHMAN KEVIN MCBRIDE BEATS FADING GEEZER MIKE TYSON SENSELESS IN D.C. BOXING MATCH. WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THIS?

Saturday night (6/11/05) in Washington, D.C. Irishman Kevin McBride, fit, redheaded, and 271 pounds, knocked the remains of the once ferocious, unpredictable, and ear-munching Mike Tyson to the mat for the last time at the beginning of the sixth round of a scheduled boxing match. After extricating his head from the ropes and pulling his considerable bulk off the floor, dumb but loveable Tyson staggered over to his corner and slumped dejectedly on his footstool. Shortly thereafter, the referee asked Tyson if he wanted to throw in the towel, and he replied, "Uhhh...yeah?" Tyson had demonstrated real desperation during the course of the match, including head butting McBride and apparently attempting to break his arm. McBride continued to fight cleanly and fairly, and, despite being ranked as the underdog and the fact that the D.C. crowd was clearly on Tyson's side, he made a mockery of the sadly aging Tyson, who'd hoped for a series of seven fights to help pay off nearly $40 million dollars in debts and taxes. It was all to no avail. After his victory, McBride was quoted as saying, "This win was for the pride of Ireland. I proved everyone wrong tonight." Tyson's quote was,"I could have gone on but I thought I was getting beat. "I don't think I have it anymore."

So, what do you boxing fans and others think about this turn of events?

Great! Tyson hits the mat!
Great! McBride makes Ireland proud!
Damn -- Tyson's entertaining.

COMMENTS:
There is nothing of him to be proud about - Tyson is way past it and finished. Back in his prime, Tyson wouldnt have give him a chance and would have confined the likes of McBride to the deck within the first minute.

Boxing must be the most frustrating sport ever. The cream of the crop cant find a title fight even when they beg for it, unless the moneys high enough.

An aging over the hill semi rapist neck biting feral creature like Tyson is still in the limelight.

The moral? Money corrupts.

I remember when the experts were proclaiming Tyson as the greatest boxer ever--kinda funny.

Well, as a boxing fan, I think that McBride should be happy he won. Hopefully though, beating a hasbeen like Tyson won't be the limelight of his career. As for Tyson being the greatest boxer, he DID at one time have great potential. In Tysons prime i'm sure McBride would have been just another first round KO for him.

I hate people who fight dirty.

I've never been a Tyson fan. However, my roots are WELSH, so anything that makes an Irishman happy is of no consequence to me.
