COMMENTS:
Its OK to have compassion if you choose. I am a compassionate person to those I like, if they are a jerk I am not. Alot of bad chices people make are made when they are young and I am no exception.

Yes. People are only human, and everyone makes bad choices now and then.
There are no rules to compassion. Either people have it, or they don't. The answer is yes, without a doubt, it is okay to have compassion for people who may have cause their own misfortune. Why not? We have compassion for the alcholic and the drug addict. Compassion is love and caring. We all should have and show true compassion to anyone in need. As the saying goes "there but by the grace of God...." You do not pick and chose when to be compassionate in my opinion, you just are.
Compassion does not equal condoning.

^ What Cathexis said. I was trying to formulate my answer, then I saw his. Thanks, Cathexis, for sparing my little grey cells.

yes lcd, people really do that, don't ask me why
No, not a lick of compassion. Their choices are, at best, risky, and downright idiotic at worst. By my personal code, stupidity equals "tough s__t, cope with it on your own".
That's an odd question. Like asking whether or not it's ok to like spinach. It's all up to the individual in question, entirely a personal choice. Personally I don't have much sympathy for people who do stupid shit and get stuck with the predictable results. For instance, if a man picks up a gun and shoots himself in the foot I'm not going to feel that bad for him. But you can feel free to offer your condolences.
as usual, Cathexis provides the most succinct response. And one can never go wrong by being compassionate. (by the way, your question at the end contradicts your original question)
