COMMENTS:
I realize he did not mean what he said literally, but it was on arab tv, and even though we knew what he meant, to me it was just showing the world who already think our troops are perverted and uncaring , just gave those people more fuel, they can quote a us senator of saying the same thing
It's hard to imagine the mentality of using our fighting men as pawns in one's own political agenda. How low can they go? I shouldn't be surprised.

Who is guarding those prisoners in cuba? US troops, he compared the camp there with nazis and soviets gulags, and do you think the those against the US bothered to read the entire transript? They took parts out and quoted what was most inflamatory. To me he just made our troops look bad
I shouldn't be surprised either of those who do that
Good point about the out of context comments.

Larry: You do make a good point and he probably should have been more cautious about his words for exactly that reason. However, I'd still suggest that the people in the US who are giving credence to that twisting are doing more harm than good by reinforcing the twist.
I suggest that if Al-Jazeera takes such a twisting, it may look bad; however, some people may wonder about spin. If some portion of the US Senate is taking that perception ... that supports the Al-Jazeera spin.
I heard the entire speech right from Dick's mouth and his words cannot be interpreted any other way. He said exactly what he meant and he did compare our troops to those other horrible prisons. Sorry but no twisting or spin necessary, his words did it for him.
I also heard what he said and he did no such thing. What he said was right on the money: Bushy and his gangsters have created a hygienic concentration camp that invokes the spirit of the nazis and the Soviets. Bushy, Cheney and Rumsfeld are war criminals and should be put on trial.
ceejjj: I suppose the real thrust of my question is -- How does heavy publicity of that perception have on the troops? Note: Not the words themselves ... but the extensive coverage of the aggrieved take on them.
Although I did take the words as taking the system to task ... not the troops.
that is the question you should be asking yourself cathexis , I've seen what he said & even the anti-deflmation league told him he needed to apologize, they aren't known for being at all right-wing. But I guess if you ask this question it would stop someone from asking what effect the use of their words will have in terms of helping recruit more terrorists It's like the worse the action by the left the harder you want to defend it ???why???
& mojo no one uses them as pawns the fact is stupid-boy durbin could be putting them in even more danger with his lying. Larry hit it right on the head. You know to be blunt I like most of the liberals out here (in general) but you guys really put blinders on & I don't think it is from being mis-lead I think it is something you do intentionally , instead of defending him or his actions look at what he DID at what HE COULD BE CAUSING TO OUR SOLDIERS OVER THERE FIGHTING TO HELP IRAQ does what matters not ever enter your mind? is it just how you can spin it? Honest to God people stop defending & promoting & think about the effects of what your party is doing . If you would stop calling names long enough (chimp... etc...) & look at the ACTIONS of your party , & the accomplishments of the troops you might just see some facts. (God forbid)
& don't hand me any b.s. about "war of oil" any one who is not a pysco themselves knows saddam needed to be taken down , we did (how terrible!) even if you oppose the war somewhere inside you head/heart you know helping Iraq is a good thing , you can't be that blind/stupid that you think free elections & freedom in general were only meant for you. (if you are that stupid there's no use talking to you.
& in terms of it being repeated whose fault is that? maybe the jerk that said it?
"you would most certainly beleive this was done by the nazis..." what the h*ll do you think he was saying there? & later amitted he couldn't even verify the accuracy of the document he was looking at!
There's really no doubt as to what he meant. And yes I think his words will likely affect the moral of US troops. How exactly are the republicans to blame for harming moral when a democratic senator calls them a bunch of nazis? And don't try to mince words, that was exactly what he was doing. This man and the party he belongs to do nothing but support terrorism and act ensure as many dead americans as possible. Now some nut is probably going to take me out of context and say that I'm calling the democrats terrorist supporters, but that's obviously not what I meant . . . right. Hey, it worked for durbin right?
Zerhog: No, you're a success: You're much more full of distortions, overstatements and dramatic puffery than Durbin. Congratulations.
^Of course that's something you'd expect to hear from an avid nazi.
