A topic would be posted between two sides as a ballot. Sides would be taken and comments and arguments from all would still be welcome. When the poll was set to close, the vote total would tally and the users who bet their karma on the user voted to 'lose' would have their karma equally distributed among the winning side. The voters' names would show up to prevent alias abuse, because your aliases would be given away if you consistently voted for yourself. You would not be able to bet much if you had a low (aka new alias) karma rating. If you really are new, you'd just have to wait it out. Ratings go up quickly in the beginning.
