I do this sometimes ... there's no way to give someone +4, because if you click in that circle it gives them a +3. So I'll let them know I really wanted to give them a +4, but couldn't. Then they don't think I'm trying to give them a 3, when really, 3 isn't all that awesome.

Or do you just say hell with it and give everyone a 5?

I tell them it's really a 4 so they know
I just give +3 and assume they know
I never give karma ratings
I only give +5 ratings

Actually, the ratings are, I believe 0 and +/- 1, 2, 3, or 5. We count backwards and assume a 4, but I suspect the 5 is just a 4 with a bonus.

If something strikes me, I give it a +5. If I don't feel that something is worth a +5, I don't give it karma. There are sooo many funny/smart things that users write worthy of +5s that I wouldn't have enough karma to rate all the 2's or 3's.

^ Ahhh haha, Mags said exactly what I was gonna say. Anything less than a +5 is just not worth the effort :o) But here's a clue, If you feel the need, just give em' two 2's. Feel free to give this comment a +4. Although you'd have to give another of my comments the other two. Just call it a +5 for cash ;oP

I only give +5s and -5s. There's no point in giving someone less. Giving a person a +3 is like saying, "you did good, just not good enough to get a perfect score from me". I don't like that, it's either good or bad.

I either give +5 or -5, but occasionally I'll give -1 or -2 with the "no karma penalty" box ticked.

I put a note about it in bug reports before but it was never replied to - I figured it was that way on purpose! I just wish I knew what the purpose was :-)

That's true we don't have enough karma to give out lower ones - I just give karma to the first two good things I see when I'm on the site (we are limited to two a day, right?)
