I was reading where the N.Y. Times was questioning the where-abouts of all the funds going to Africa over the past 40 plus years. (It's a great cause)But we as a nation , only counting what the government of America has sent , not including person donations, has sent 600 billion (with a b) dollars & the situation seems to be just about as bad as ever. I tend to think the money is being stolen by the government officals somewhere along the line. What do you think?

Yes most of it gets to those in need
No it's stolen by African gov. officals
No it's stolen by orginazed criminals after reaching Africa

(or) stolen by organized criminals

I believe there is a pronounced corruption problem. Africa has a host of problems which will not be solved merely by throwing money at them.

Call me cynical, but when I read about our America-based charities, like the Red Cross and United Way spending only a few percentage points of their donations on relief and other charity efforts, I can't imagine that Africa would do better.

It's wasted by the oligarchs, just like our money is here. Money really would help if it got to the people who needed it.

True thc I just don't think it's reaching them, of course I agree with cath to a point I really don't think money will solve everything, but I'd love to know most of it was reaching those in need. Hard to believe we & all the other countries & organizations around the world have had so little effect.

Not "stolen" by the legal definition, but "rerouted", as in the various fees and operating costs assessed along the way.
