COMMENTS:
I have to go with Slow Hand, just because I loved Cream, one of my favorite bands ever and I wish Hendrix could have lived longer and we got to hear a greater body of work from him but we can't...when I think of Page I just think of Zeppelin and he was great, but after that...what was that band with Paul Rodgers? The Firm? ok at best! When I think of Clapton I think of the Yardbirds, Cream, Derrick and the Dominoes, Blind Faith and his solo carrer... most artists would sell their soul to have been in any one of those bands; Clapton was in ALL of them! Put me down for Eric Clapton.

I like a slow hand too ;o)

Yeah, I got to go with Clapton too, mainly cos I like more stuff by him ,than the others. Guitar playing duel, Hendrix v's Clapton though, I think Hendrix would blow him away.

I practically worshipped Eric Clapton at one point. Cream is one of my all-time favorite bands. When he was at his peak, his guitar-playing ability was almost beyond human.

That's not to take away from Hendrix or Page, though. I loved both Hendrix and Led Zep.

Clapton was the smoothest and most intense internally, with a storytelling quality to his playing.Hendrix was the most raw and outwardly intense although Page had his moments too.Page was the most whloe picturish/visionary although Hendrix had some moments too.

I'd have to go with Page because I place high value on his originality and visionary style. He also contributed to production on all of the albums and covered so much creative ground. His unorthadox micing approach was largely responsable for that killer drum tone on When the levee breaks.

Clapton, by a mile.

Clapton or Hendrix..........

Clapton, maybe he is not better (maybe he is) but I prefer listening to him

Those bums got nothing on Stevie Ray Vaughan.
by _Beelzebubba on Mon Aug 08, 05 8:55am [+]

Clapton is a clean crisp player, Hendrix push the boundaries of guitar playing and Page wrote great licks.

My fav is Hendrix.

If anyone wants an absolutely true story that re-enforces why Clapton was once called "God", drop me a PM. It's too long to fit in a ballot.
by Truthseeker013 on Mon Aug 08, 05 6:28pm [+]

I heard it was because someone spray painted it on a wall somewhere in Germany, they wanted to paint "Clapton is Good" but they weren't so good in English and they painted "Clapton is God" That's the way I've heard the story since I was a wee tyke!
by Guy_Cabbelero on Mon Aug 08, 05 9:24pm [+]

when claptout first saw hendrix perform he was stunned. old slowhand was good enough to realise that he was nowhere near as good as jimi.
interesting story about stevie ray; he dreamed that jimi was showing him chords that he ended up using.

jimi was the best by a country mile, and no-one in the intervening decades since his untimely death has come anywhere close.

Clapton was with Pete Townsend at the time when they watch Hendrix for the first time. Pete got very depressed and concidered giving up playing guitar! Side note; when Hendrix went to Britian the only person he was interested in meeting was Clapton.

Another side note about "Clapton is god" when Hendrix exploded on the scene in Britian (America could care less)people started saying "god is dead".

I also agree with you that there hasn't been anyone coming close to Hendrix's gift that the public is aware of. BTW I would have take out Jimmy Page from this ballot and replaced him with Jeff Beck.
by ClosetIguana on Tue Aug 09, 05 12:55pm [+]

it was all going so well until you mentioned jeff beck. ha ha.
interesting about clapton wanting to meet jimi. cool.
just because i personally feel that jimi was the best doesn't mean i am dismissing the other guitarists. picking up on ClosetIguana's point i am sure there is a lot of rightful mutual respect between quality musicians. and jeff beck too. ha ha. just kidding.

What do you have against Beck?
by ClosetIguana on Wed Aug 10, 05 11:59am [+]

Hendrix once said in an interview that Clapton was the best guitarist going around.

Not that it really proves anything, Clapton would pobably say the same thing about Hendrix.

It does show the huge appreciation Hendrix had for Clapton

since guitarist from many idioms play their instruments well is it fair to take three guitarist from r&r and ask this question

Voted : Jimmi Hendrix
In my opinion Clapton and Page's combined skills don't match half the skill of Hendrix. But I always didn't think that.

Recently I watch a DVD with some first-time-ever realeased film footage which showed the entire performance of Hendrix (almost two hours) at his famous Woodstock appearance. I was so blown-away by his guitar work it brought tears to my eyes.

Hendrix is the greatest blues guitarist by a country mile. Clapton? ehh..

Page was more of a riff/ideas man although he could solo damn well. But if you're talking blues, it's Hendrix, no fucking contest.
