I'm not the only one puzzled by this. Several White House correspondents reporting on it were scratching their heads too. Why doesn't Bush plan to meet with some of the worst-hit disaster victims?

'Security' issues - no, wait, he'll be surrounded by the Secret Service.
He might hear something he doesn't like (and it might be videotaped).
He might get his trouser legs dirty.
Poor, desperate people are a 100% bummer, and not part of his 'base'.
He wouldn't come out alive, thats why
Cowardice
There are more whites in Biloxi
can't hold a stage managed press conference there
Too many niggras

Marine One doesn't have pontoons on it?
by Guy_Cabbelero on Fri Sep 02, 05 9:29am [+]

^ aid workers have been getting to people there just fine.
by mojo on Fri Sep 02, 05 9:32am [+]

I was being facetious Mojo....besides I doubt they would announce in advance if he was going to tour New Orleans for security reasons, but he might show up at the last moment. If he really cared.
by Guy_Cabbelero on Fri Sep 02, 05 9:45am [+]

They'd tear him a whole new corn shoot.. that's why.
by Tadema on Fri Sep 02, 05 9:48am [+]

He has always shown that he isn't willing to put HIS life on the line. The answer is obvious. He is the last person on earth that I think the people in New Orleans want to see.
by FiddleFaddleOnLSD on Fri Sep 02, 05 9:48am [+]

Guy, I hope that's true. It would be so nice if he did that.

Let's see some of those "family and Christian values" in action!

Mobsie & Tadema hit the nail on the head.
by elvislennon on Fri Sep 02, 05 11:00am [+]

Pure unadulterated cowardice and detachment. He sits in an Ivory Tower known as the White House. The torment of REAL people mean nothing to him. He is the soul of indifference.
by xxxxxxxx on Fri Sep 02, 05 11:34am [+]

Actually Mojo, the news broadcasts are saying he's in Mobile right now.
by everygirl on Fri Sep 02, 05 11:35am [+]

In terms of race the population there is fairly evenly split.
by everygirl on Fri Sep 02, 05 11:36am [+]

Also some people are saying that if he does go to New Orleans it would be very disruptive to the relief efforts.
by everygirl on Fri Sep 02, 05 11:37am [+]

Plenty of looters might steal his helicoptah, boyeee.
by Les6Hithe6Wins6Again on Fri Sep 02, 05 12:02pm [+]

Excellent observation, Fiddle. In the areas GWB is to visit, there is little flooding, virtually no looting, and aid is being delivered.

Bush visiting Biloxi to assess the hurricane relief effort is like visiting Texas to assess the economy of New Mexico.

Bizarre. Will he get away with it? Maybe on Fox, but not the rest, I'd guess. Or not.

by xxxxxxxx on Fri Sep 02, 05 12:04pm [+]

Once AGAIN, everygirl is completely wrong in her facts. New Orleans is 67% black and an even higher percentage of the people trapped in New Orleans are black.
by FiddleFaddleOnLSD on Fri Sep 02, 05 12:11pm [+]

^No fella you misunderstood what I was saying , in Mobile Al the percentage is about 50 / 50 not New Orleans.
In other words he isn't just visiting the area with mostly whites.
& once agian ex-squeeze me puddin?
You may disagree with facts when they don't fit your beliefs, that deosn't make them wrong.
by everygirl on Fri Sep 02, 05 12:37pm [+]

everygirl, 'disruptive to relief efforts,' lmao!! HOW? I knew the Bushites would find a way to spin it, even if it makes no sense.

Don't you think it would be good PR for Bush - not to mention a morale boost to those people - for him to make an appearance somewhere in New Orleans??

I'm still hoping he'll make an appearance at the last minute, as Guy suggested.
by mojo on Fri Sep 02, 05 1:10pm [+]

Everygirl, the question is about NEW ORLEANS. That is how I responded. You may be correct about the racial breakdown in other areas, but when speaking about New Orleans it is the black population that has been overwhelmingly affected.
by FiddleFaddleOnLSD on Fri Sep 02, 05 3:26pm [+]

Mojo, disruptive because of the people, space & time it will take up for the president of the U.S. to show up , also he brings his own possee (you know by law the bodyguards have to be there) etc. I'm not saying he won't go at all , I wouldn't be surprised if he does, & yeah your right it would be good p.r. & maybe good for the people to see him there (Katrina's victims I mean) but they are having a little debate on a radio show I listen over that, is it more helpful or harmful. I do think he should go but some of the callers are saying no he & his people would just be in the way.
by everygirl on Fri Sep 02, 05 3:32pm [+]

& yeah guy may be right , I don't think (with everything else going on in the world right now) that I would announce it ahead of time either. Not in the all that chaos .
by everygirl on Fri Sep 02, 05 3:37pm [+]

excuse that extra "the"^^
by everygirl on Fri Sep 02, 05 3:39pm [+]

Most of you are pretty naive, brainwashed, and dumb. What president is going to go into a zone where even the troops are being shot at? Whoever is using this terrible event to smear Bush, which includes many of you, is a heartless jerkoff. I am disgusted with all of you.
by CletuSlackedJawYokel on Fri Sep 02, 05 3:47pm [+]

^ Backatya, sweetie.
by mojo on Fri Sep 02, 05 3:57pm [+]

Actually now they're saying on the radio that Bush will be making a speech in New Orleans in a little while. (not sure yet if it will happen) but they say they will carry it live.
by everygirl on Fri Sep 02, 05 4:22pm [+]

Mojo, you people are taking the time to score political points on this without paying much attention to the suffering. What a bunch of losers.

^HUH?

Political points? I'm a freelance graphic designer/artist, not a politician, lol.

I don't give a good goddamn about the politics of this situation. News flash: there are people suffering and DYING. If you think that our government responded in a timely and practical fashion, great. I don't.

This is so much bigger than my ego, or yours, that it's embarrassing to engage in personal bashing.

I'm working on helping some people in need. Hope you are, too.

Good luck to you, I'm sorry this got so personal.

Let's face it, this whole New Orleans thing has a lot to do with race. White folks around the world sat glued to their television sets, watching as Blacks behaved in ways that confirmed what most Caucassions think, but are too polite to say publicly. The White folks saw in their minds Rwandan style African chaos, anabalism and savagery. However, what most white people neglected to do was stop for a second and ponder what they would do if they were in a similar situation. Believe me, even the palest skinned, blondest haired, bluest eyed Anglo-Saxon aristocrat would behave like a savage if they were dumped into a hopeless nightmare such as what happened to these poor souls. Top it off with lack of any formal decent education, and little knowledge of what life is like outside their housing projects and ghettos, and this is the kind of brutal Darwinistic survival of the fittest reaction you will get.

Most Whites, and myself included, have a certain stereotype in mind when thinking of Blacks. An honest man will admit this, and he'll also fight tooth and nail to keep it at bay, and never let it interfere with his relations with minorities. The assholes of the world are the ones who give into their internal prejudices and refuse to do a good thing in order to right a bad thing. Bush/Cheney did exactly the wrong thing. They saw it as another case of the "niggers are goin' bananas again, just like during the LA Riots." Let 'em get the black rage out of their system first. Go ahead and let 'em loot and pillage for a while. Let the bad ones shoot each other off, and then we'll go in there and save the day. You know that is exactly what they thought.
by bob_from_delray_detr on Fri Sep 02, 05 8:52pm [+]

In all fairness, if someone doesn't think Bush is doing the right thing, it's worth pointing out (same if he DOES do the right thing). That's what this site is for, and it's also our right (and some would argue our duty) as US citizens.
by xxxxxxxx on Fri Sep 02, 05 9:22pm [+]

Cletus again demonstrating his hatred and intollerence for those that dont agree with HIMMM. I think whats sad is that at a time like this you are arguing. regardless of the political persuassion. and if i didnt make it clear. cletus your a complete and utter waste of space...
