COMMENTS:
Not for the hurricane itself, but maybe for the lack of response to the humanitarian crisis that followed

I don't think Bush has the ability to cause hurricanes. At least I hope not.
by FiddleFaddleOnLSD on Mon Sep 05, 05 12:26pm [+]

Even Bush couldn’t have set up a hurricane, however, I do believe that he has a degree of responsibility to answer to.......
Lack of funds
Lack of resources
Lack of care
Neglect of duty
by minni_the_minx on Mon Sep 05, 05 12:35pm [+]

No, but he will be blamed for it, just as he was blamed for the tsunami (secret cia weapons test, now he's unleashed it on poor black democrats).
by herzog on Mon Sep 05, 05 12:46pm [+]

Personally I lay all the blame for this on nagin. He should be more interested in protecting new orleans than anyone else, and he did nothing. He asked for an evactuation, and that's it. He didn't arrange transportation, he didn't arrange for food or water for the survivors, he did nothing to restore order. He basically got himself on tv alot pointing out how this is everyone elses fault. But you'll notice new orleans was the only city where things got this bad, although they were far from the only city hit.

And if your city lies on the coast, below sea level to begin with, is predicted to be hit by a class 5 hurricane, you should take notice. They should have put more effort into preparing than anyone else, but they didn't and now they're paying for it.

Of course, herzo put the ENTIRE blame on the black mayor. Put any blame on white city officials, on the white governor, on white Federal government officials? on the white president? Of course, not. In the minds of an obsessed racist, it MUST be the black mayor. I am surprised, though, that herzo didn't put any of the blame on the black guy hiding under his bed.

To be honest, Herzog is right, the mayor DOES have to take some of the resposibility but the eventual book should stop at Bush's door for the failings in the first place, he is after all the head of the country. Ok so we can all make mistakes and hindsight would have been great but the real question now is, will the government and the chain of command between Washington and New Orleans learn from this disaster???
by minni_the_minx on Mon Sep 05, 05 2:20pm [+]

hope so minni, the hurricane season hasn't ended yet

The question is approximately this: Is the Captain of a ship responsible for the mistake of an engineer on his ship who causes the boiler to explode and the vessle to sink? Nautical law would hold the Captain responsible, and the Captain would usually hold himself responsible.

Does political "law" work the same way? Not usually, and the idea of holding oneself responsible in American politics is ... dead.

"Vessel.."
by griffon007 on Mon Sep 05, 05 8:09pm [+]

It couldn't happen to us.
It wouldn't DARE happen to us.
Dammit, it did, and there's absolutely no political 'war-on-tearrr' leverage to be had out of it, and furthermore it diminishes The Sacred 9/11 Event to the point of now lookin' like a cake-walk, by comparison.

Hell, 9/11 was two city blocks worth of horrors.

Katrina is three STATES.
