SHOULD THE FBI BE FIGHTING A WAR ON PORN?

[+] serious ballot by Cathexis
created Thu Sep 29, 05

We have the War on Terror.

We have the War on Drugs.

We have the War on Crime.

And now: it seems we have the War on Porn.

In a Sept. 20 story, the Washington Post revealed that the FBI has been brought into the Bush administration's War on Porn and was recruiting agents for a special Anti-Obscenity squad. This squad would not just be looking for child porn, but pornography for adults, made by adults, featuring adults.

Should the FBI be fighting a War on Porn?

Why don't they just back off the whole sex thing for adults. We don't need "mommy and daddy" deciding for us, what is moral and what isn't... pisses me off

This "war on porn" is laughable. It'll fall dead on its ass and be yet another embarassment for the Bush administration. There won't be many FBI agents who will be taking it seriously; many of them have viewed porn themselves.

Nobody's gonna come into my apartment and hack off my hands that's for damn sure.

Don't mess with my sex!

Child porn, yes. Any other type of porn, no.

Ignoring any constitutional issues with this, it's just a big waste resources.
by herzog on Thu Sep 29, 05 4:33pm [+]

Unbelievable, really. What the FBI, and this administration generally, needs to do is have someone pull the stick out of their ass.

Good God! Talk about a Quixotic campaign. Are they going to "know it when they see it," and are we to be protected from ourselves?

Disgusting stuff.

This must mean that terrorism is not a real threat.

If the war were against child pornography (and on the same scale as the aforementioned wars), then yes, I would. But the wars we've already got are draining our resources to the bone while returning less than spectacular results. Mind you, this "supposed" gear-up is only the continuation of a campaign that John Ashcroft was in the process of gearing up when 9/11 occured (sp?). It took a personal visit by Mister Bush, according to the intel I've seen on the matter, to dissuade Ashcroft from hunting porn and performing the much-less-vital task of hunting down those who killed 3,000+ of our fellow humans.

Yes, there is a problem with those too young gaining access to porn. Sounds like a matter for parental intervention, not the Guv'mint.

cathexis is this MORE plagiarism or did you come up with it yourself?
by inter_regnum on Thu Sep 29, 05 8:20pm [+]

It seems Bush's admin would want to encourage porn since it's making people's brains a little mushier :p
by Jyl on Thu Sep 29, 05 8:26pm [+]

Everyone should go naked in the streets in protest.
by nuckinfutz on Thu Sep 29, 05 8:42pm [+]

inter_Regnum: Ah, yes ... when one can't discuss substance, argue form.

Do you have anything to substantive to add to the topic?
by Cathexis on Fri Sep 30, 05 9:10am [+]

This is probably just another scam created by the Bush administration so they can get their hands of free porn.
by Liberal_Democrat on Fri Sep 30, 05 1:54pm [+]

Voted : Only child porn...
Speaking as someone who has personally spoken with Larry Flynt at a film festival, I have to say I agree with him as far as porn goes. I do not have a problem with pornography as long as it does not involve children.
