like The Three Stooges.

I don't , I think it is terrible, don't see what is funny about hitting someone in head with a hammar, or twist someones nose with pliers.

I really don't get it, do you?

COMMENTS:
It depends. I never really cared much for the Stooges (know a lot of people like them though). I just never got the humor in poking people in the eye and pulling their noses with pliars. On the other hand, I think Buster Keaton was hilarious. Keaton's comedy was more acrobatic though. I also like the Marx Brothers and Laurel and Hardy a lot, and their comedy was very phyical too. I'd have to say it just depends on the way it's done. It's not so much that the Stooges were physical comedians, as it is that they use physical pain as the source of much of their comedy (whereas Keaton, the Marx Brothers, and Laurel and Hardy were more likely to use very strange predicaments and situations for most of their humor).

I really haven't seen any of The Marx Brothers or Laurel and Hardy movies , so can't comment on them, but I have a friend who just got some 3 stooges tapes, and he and his whole family love it.

I actually have to leave the room, when they are watching.

Never could watch the Stooges. I consider Harold Lloyd and Buster Keaton to be real physical comedy.

I don't like slapstick, but I like the Jim Carrey and the Adam Sandler style of physical comedy.

Well...I said no but I do like Abott and Costello. I also enjoy John Ritter's type of comedy, so partly yes. It was the 3 stooges and Laurel & Hardy I was thinking of when I said no.

The stooges,Chriss Farley and Kramer on Seinfeld were all really funny so I guess yes.

Jim Carey, John Ritter, Jerry Lewis, Dick Van Dyke all funny dudes in my opinion.

As IC mentioned, it really depends on a variety of factors *smacks IC with a large rainbow trout*. You see larry, physical comedy *slips on banana peel, lands on skateboard falls down the stairs* is all about timing, *gets up, hits head on low ceiling* without a well timed and thought out routine *puts hands on head, steps on a rabid badger* physical comedy just won't have the same imact *badger bites leg, bends over in pain, badger jumps and bites ass* that it should have.

I agree with Um__Yeah *twists his ball sack with salad tongues* Nyuck! Nyuck! Nyuck!

I have a certain fond spot for the Stooges, but I don't consider them to be brilliant comedians. The real thinkers of physical comedy were Buster Keaton and Harold Lloyd. The silent comedians truly were the best at that artform, because they could rely much more heavily on well executed slapstick to carry across their humor, rather than verbal wit.

Sit down and watch "Safety Last" (Lloyd) or "Speedy" (Lloyd) or, even better, Keaton's "Sherlock, Jr." or his short film "Cops" and you'll have a good idea of how intelligent physical comedy can truly be.
