Gary Glitter, once a famous rock star, was given a four-month prison sentence in 1999 in England for storing pornographic pictures of children on his computer.

Now he faces a firing squad in Vietnam for having sex with two 12-year-old girls. Currently in a squalid jail, he has very little chance of escaping his grim fate. The law in Vietnam is harsh for this crime, and extradition back to the U.K. is not possible.

Don't you think Gary Glitter is an example of a child molester who can't change his ways? He already went to priso, and had all the money in the world to get therapy, but still couldn't control his 'habit'.

COMMENTS:
It looks that way, leopards don't change their spots comes to mind. At least the Vietnamese have the right idea in dealing with these scumbags. I have no sympathy for him at all.
by InternalColonel on Wed Nov 23, 05 7:24am [+]

Although, they say if convicted he's more likely to get 12 years in jail.
by InternalColonel on Wed Nov 23, 05 7:28am [+]

^ From what I read (Daily Mail), he almost certainly faces death.
by mojo on Wed Nov 23, 05 7:30am [+]

Yeah, I'm not sure what's going to happen to him, but I have a hard time finding sympathy for him also.
If it had been a say 15 or 16 yr old only , that would be different (wrong but not as bad) the whole porn on his computer thing does make him look beyond redemption. That's a real freak.
by everygirl on Wed Nov 23, 05 7:33am [+]

The papers are saying that for dramatic effect, Mojo. While the firing squad is a possible sentence, they say it's very rarely given out.
by InternalColonel on Wed Nov 23, 05 7:43am [+]

I wonder if they put up with that sort of behavior in the United Arab Emirates, cha'mone?
by _Beelzebubba on Wed Nov 23, 05 7:44am [+]

He supposedly paid £5.50 for each of the girls and says he was told they were 20 years old. Hard to believe coming from a convicted pedophile. They were prostitutes but as they're under age it's still classed as child assault. He also had a 15 year old girl living with him.
by InternalColonel on Wed Nov 23, 05 7:48am [+]

He was also thrown out of Cambodia for the same thing, so I'll say the answer to your question is a definate yes, Mojo.
by InternalColonel on Wed Nov 23, 05 7:53am [+]

A firing squad is a great way to rehabilitate him ;)
by ABC on Wed Nov 23, 05 7:57am [+]

Unfortunately, these people usually don't recognise what they have done as being a crime, thay are usually psychopaths who are incapable of remorse who believe they are above the ethical and moral laws that the rest of us take for granted, look at that other creep Jonathan King, arrogant and defiant to this day, and still believing he will be proven innocent.
by Ken_from_Dublin on Wed Nov 23, 05 8:02am [+]

Ken - I think thats a bit harsh

"these people usually don't recognise what they have done as being a crime, thay are usually psychopaths who are incapable of remorse who believe they are above the ethical and moral laws that the rest of us "

I think Peadophiles in general do know that what they are doing is a crime. I would have thought most Peadophiles hate themselves for finding children attractive. Would also have thought that they are well aware that they shouldn't legally and ethically do it.

Saying that they are usually psychopaths is a bit broad too. Mayb some are... but I wouldn't have thought usually. Doing something to a child in that way is pretty damned fucked up but that doesn' necessarily make a peado a psycho.

Having said all that... It is pretty crazy how these people are unable to stop themselves from following through their sexual urges.

by Tommo on Wed Nov 23, 05 8:28am [+]

Many pedophiles are otherwise normal and otherwise intelligent people who see nothing wrong with what they're doing. Both their drives and their views on sexuality are hopelessly warped, and their rehabilitation rate is virtually nil.
by nuckinfutz on Wed Nov 23, 05 9:22am [+]

He thought they were 20?! Is he fucking stupid? I mean, I *might* buy that he thought they were 16 if they were developed enough, but thinking 12-year-olds are 20? No chance in hell.

As for him facing a firing squad, HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! That's hilarious!
by Counciltucky on Wed Nov 23, 05 9:24am [+]

maybe recidivism.
by inter_regnum on Wed Nov 23, 05 10:44am [+]

Twelve in the slam is too light, and death is too harsh. The rest of his life as a prison bride would do nicely. That way, he would at least have some concept of the pain and agony he's dealt to innocents by his evil ways.

Thanks, inter_regnum, for pointing out my spelling error.

Funny D_wright hasn't been in to defend ol' Gary, being a member of his fan club.

Loves the kiddies too, does D_shitey. I'm waiting for his first 'Cary Glitter IS INNOCENT LIKE ANGELS AND PURE LIKE CHILDREN?' comment.
by InternalColonel on Wed Nov 23, 05 12:01pm [+]

Pedophiles don't earn much if any sympathy from me, especially a serial one like Glitter apparently is, but I think death by firing squad's entirely too harsh a penalty for his crime. I could see 15 years in a Vietnamese labor camp or the like, but not the death penalty. Besides, to be blunt, as has already been pointed out and disgusting as it may be, both of these girls were already "in the trade," so to speak. Sadly, in a number of Third World countries, this would not be all that uncommon. I've never hired one in my entire life, but I have definitely seen some street prostitutes during my foreign travels where I knew there was no way in hell they were 18 years of age. The local law enforcement didn't seem to care...

Do ya wanna be in my firing squad? Oh yeeeah.

Incidentaly a friend of mine who doesnt keep up with the news used to do a gary glitter tribute set. He didn't know that the guy had been arrested so did his spot as usual down the local pub. Came as a bit of a shock to him when 3 blokes kicked the crap out of him.

Therin lies the problem with knee jerk reactions. His crime was not watching the news. Did he deserve that?

No i think they should line him up. Blindfold him. get the execution squad leader to sing "im the leader of the squad oh yeah". and then go through the motions and at the last minute tell him it was just a joke and lock him up forever.
by mobsie666 on Wed Nov 23, 05 2:38pm [+]

You can't rehabilitate a pedophile. It's not like drugs or booze, it's something different. Same way you can't turn a Gay man straight, you can't make a pedophile attracted to women. Same goes for serial killers, sadists, animal tortureres, etc..
by Liberal_Democrat on Wed Nov 23, 05 3:00pm [+]

Harsh, but fair!
by wolf_nipple_chips on Wed Nov 23, 05 10:20pm [+]

I think the death penalty is wrong and should never be used, but Gary Glitter probably knew the penalty when he went out there. And his career was appalling as well, so if it is to be the end of Gary Glitter then I won't be shedding any tears.
by dies_irae on Thu Nov 24, 05 2:04am [+]

Yep I say hang the bastard. The world will be better of without sickos like him.
by seon on Thu Nov 24, 05 12:36pm [+]

Well the guy was kicked out of Cambodia TWICE.

Even Pol Pot couldn't get kicked out of Cambodia and he killed 1.7 million people.

Rock and roll!
