In many ways yes. Not necessarily white rule, but when they were under western rule they were better off, even poor blacks. Now they're under primitive tribalism in many cases and we've all seen what that leads to (genocide, ethnic conflict, rejection of science, especially medicine, etc). Not good things.
Tribal people were fine before rich white colonialists arrived with their pith hats and their malfeasant designs of 'progress.'
Zimbabwe is a mess, but it was fine enough before empire types like Cecil Rhodes marched in and named it Rhodesia.
Mugabe may be a crazed baboon, but he didn't create his country's troubles.

You didnt offend me, I was merely pointing out that saying "werent THOSE blacks better off" etc dehumanises blacks and will offend a lot of people more sensitive than me, but like I said the question has merit. Im trying to look at it from the point of view of the average user of this site i.e liberal and scared of racial discussion
Oh don't bother with that. I threw in the perjorative of white women getting raped just as a stereotype to get some blood boiling. But clearly Mugabe has messed up Zimbabwe regardless of the color of his skin. And it wasn't exactly like there weren't any problems before the whitey arrived, now was was it?

Pick up a history book on Africa, then by all means try and have a discourse wih me on the subject of Africa, pre and post colonialism.

Yes they were. Call their culture Stone Age, but they were enlightened enough to live in wisdom and a certain degree of prosperity before colonialism wreaked havoc on their land and way of life.

Before the Portuguese invaded in the early 1500s the Zimbabweans had established a monarchy and healthy trading routes with the Arabs. They may not have had conventional currency, but they had plenty of gold and minerals and a rich agricultural base... which later British settlers seized upon with a vengeance, declaring white majority rule under Ian Smith.
Interesting to note that the man responsible for bringing Mugabe to power was none other than the infamous Lord Carrington.
