No. They shouldn't have to join the military just because they strongly believe in something foreign.
Ignoring the obvious intent of the ballot, here are some facts :
Serving in the IDF is obligatory for Jewish (except Ulatra Orthodox) Israeli males and femals over 18, for peroid of 3 years and 1.75 years accordingly. Druze, Circassian and other non-Arab minorities in Israel have the same obligation for males. Many American Jews, primarily ex-Israelis do send their boys to serve in the IDF. And in times of war, there are many reservists that, while can't be obliged to be mobilized while living in the US, most of the reservists do fly to Israel to join the fight.
Do you really think that if Israel didn't faced actual threats to its existence, all what I described would actually be so?
