COMMENTS:
If I want to avoid bias, I avoid the media completely. I don't believe anything I hear from them anymore.
Journalists should try to balance both sides of any issue and they should make clear that complete objectivity is impossible to attain. On the other hand, good readers/viewers/listeners should also try to obtain the information they need through multiple sources, not just one (and thus balancing both sides of an issue as well).
All media is biased. Any reporting of the news is told from the perspective of the reporter. There is NO such thing as an unbiased or objective media. The key is obtaining information from a variety of sources, critically evaluating the info, and repeat these 2 steps. Keep in mind that 2 people at an event will report different things. This has been shown numerous times with reports of traffic accidents. Why would anyone believe any reporter is objective? CRITICAL THINKING is the key.
journalism these days is dictated by the editorial team. if you read the daily bigot then theres a good chance youll think their lies are true anyway. Read the independent it may be dull but it is pretty much the facts without embelishment.
I suggest that trying to 'balance' is not objective -- it merely results in purposefully introducing biases and lends false credence to one or both views.
Get as much news as you can and try to balance balance it all out. The mainstream media has more resources, but they tend to ignore certain stories, internet news and bloggers have fewer resources, but they seem to cover a broader spectrum and do more research. So get both.
To quote Sergeant Joe Friday, L.A.P.D., "Just the facts." If minds were allowed to arrive at their own decisions, rather than be steered to decisions that others want them to arrive at, it'd be amazing what could get done.
Hail media, full of ommisions, the spin be with thee. Take the blinders off first. That is to say don't rely on the mainstream press alone. The content is skewed towards the accepted dogma of the day in the form of ritual incantations much like offerings for hamster wheel membership.Don't join the club.Sample all of the offerings from the web but remember to filter.
^Hamster wheel membership. That's a classic.
The American Media lies. If you want unbias information, try the internet.
Voted : Trying to balance both sides of any issue
These days, they refuse to even mention that there is someone else still on the ballot running against John McCain.
