WHY DO AMERICANS HATE SADDAM HUSSEIN SO MUCH?

choices :
[+] serious ballot by Liberal_Democrat

I understand that he was a tyrant IN IRAQ but that doesn't explain the extreme hate that was pointed toward him around time of the Iraq invasion. A man who never harmed a single American civilian prior to the 2003 agression. He was definately an ass but George W. Bush has done so much worse to AMERICANS than Saddam. Why wasn't as much hate pointed toward Dubya?

COMMENTS:
Beacuse the "liberal media" convinced the masses that he was fully worthy of all the hatred and scorn they could rain upon him. Looking at him last week in that courtroom, I feel more hatred toward the guy who didn't put extra onions on my Subway sub Saturday.
between gulf war one and the airstrikes against Iraq in the 90's, those events and the explanations Bush 1 and Clinton gave probably conditioned some americans to think of him as an enemy, and most people haven't much love for their enemies.
I just don't like his ugly face.
Maybe it's just because Bush has Saddam confused with Osama. Did u see his wonderful press conference this morning???
Most americans do not distinguish between american civilians and troops, if either are killed, they don't like it.

half of the voters of the country hate Bush, I'm sure it is far more of the general population , did you take a poll as to how many hate Saddam? I'm guessing it's less than those who hate The president

Most americans do not distinguish between american civilians and troops, if either are killed, they don't like it.

That was in reference to your comment

If you don't play our game we don't want you on our globe.
Maybe, just maybe it is because he was a brutal dictator who killed his own people, used chemical weapons on the Kurds, etc. Americans didn't like Idi Amin either when he was in power.
Because he was a bastard?

No. 2 choice: Because we were TOLD to vilify him in spite of prior US support, and how....

His name just sounds evil.

That, and South Park has made Saddam out to be so evil that it's easy to sympathize with Satan. lol

By the power invested in me by mob rule I declare Saddam Eveeel! We Brits don't like him because your President told our Prime Minister to tell us not to. :o)
That, and big moustaches are sooo yesterday!
Yep. How 1980s. I mean, how DARE he walk into a courtroom like that?? ;)

No one cared about the plight of the Iraqi people until it became a justification for our invasion, after we discovered that Saddam Hussein was not a threat to the United States. So we instead focused on how he was a threat to his own people. Incidentally, roughly 30,000 of those people have died as a direct result of the invasion and the ongoing violence it has triggered. This number comes from the president.

On the most basic level though, it was and is necessary for us to hate Saddam in order for us to justify morally the invasion and occupation. And it's not hard to hate a ruthless dictator like him.

Let's all hold hands and start liking him, huh?
I've got a lot of sympathy for the man. Fancy having 10 doubles running around looking exactly like you, and then getting yourself caught in a hole in the ground.
Im sure every elected offical actually was envious of him as his people couldnt take him from power, I still say Saddam did a better job of running Iraq than the current rulers. I will go with the 1st choice of propaganda.

what kind of a person doesn't hate someone that murders children as well as adults , puts people in acid "baths" tortures people , video tapes the torture of children to show the tapes to the parents & throws the bodies in mass graves, & builds palaces for himself while many of his own people starve to death? Not to mention the mural of 9/11 they found on the wall of one of his palaces.
This question is a little bizarre even for a lefty to be asking.

We were brainwashed into seeing Saddam as a threat to us by politicians owned by a foreign power that really was threatened by the Iraqi dictator.
Does it really matter if he was a threat to us? I mean if you saw a family on the street getting murdered would you not care just because it wasn't yours?

This is silly talk. How comes it is ok to care for the starving in Africa or the orphans in China but it isn't ok all of the sudden to care about the oppressed in Iraq?

I think what they are getting at is the timing of the hate. Let's face it while he gassed the Kurds he was an allie of the U.S (not prior to the invasion). Why no hate towards him then? Where is the outcry for the humanitarian crisis happening this very instant in Northern Uganda? It's politics pure and simple.

Maybe Uganda will get in the newspapers in a couple of decades when it can be used as a polical tool.
"No one cared about the plight of the Iraqi people until it became a justification for our invasion"

One of the points I was going toward with this ballot. Good comment.

"what kind of a person doesn't hate someone that murders children as well as adults , puts people in acid "baths" tortures people , video tapes the torture of children to show the tapes to the parents & throws the bodies in mass graves, & builds palaces for himself while many of his own people starve to death?"

Well, why do you support Bush so much? If you hate Saddam for that then you should hate Bush the same. George W. Bush is responsible for the Army's actions, you do know that. He sent them to war and he told them what to do. So, so far there are about 30,000 Iraqis killed (most civilians), video and photographed torture in prison cells of people who haven't been charged of a crime, and the imprisoning and spying of/on American citizens without a lawyer or court appearance.

"Not to mention the mural of 9/11 they found on the wall of one of his palaces."

So what, I've seen building here in the US with the 9/11 attacks painted on it. I've seen pickup trucks where the entire back window is a large 9/11 mural. Do you hate them for doing that too?

"This question is a little bizarre even for a lefty to be asking."

I disagree, there's nothing bizarre about this question.

"Does it really matter if he was a threat to us? I mean if you saw a family on the street getting murdered would you not care just because it wasn't yours?"

It would bother me but if I were a president, I would not start a war which would lead to more deaths than if Saddam remained in power for this time. Yes it's bad, it doesn't mean that you have to make it worse. If you care so much about the Iraqi families then why do you support the US invasion? Do you know how many familys were broken apart from that first invasion alone?

plenty people do hate Bush, I don't know why people keep going back to that, because Bush did what we might perceive as worse, we are suppose to love Saddam, or is it because it might take focus away from what you think everyone should feel.

I hate this site for that reason, and I've said it many times, people can not crit anything anyone else on the planet has done wrong because it always goes back to, "yeah, but look what Bush did, christians ,did , usa did, that's the only arguement many of you have because you are so worried about offending anyone outside the USA

Now come back with your lame line, "stop playing the victim"

I'll tell you this too, I don't care who you are on this site, if you do that, if you are so pc or hate Bush so much, that you let other bad things that happens in the world go by, I have totally no respect for that, no brownie points from me for your hypocritical political correctness.
larrynelmira
Aybody that says Bush is worse than Saddam is insane. I do think the reason why some people complain about Bush is that they hold the U.S Presidency to a higher standard than an Iraqi dictatorship.

Maybe the question should be the other way round. But then it wouldn't need to be a quetion because the reasons why anyone should want to hate America are clear. Power games, having a war with country that hasn't even declared war, shooting Iraqi civilians... the list goes on. Power abuse. Bush is an orangutan
