COMMENTS:
Quite a few inaccuracies, like Wallace's affair with Princess Isabella, which was complete tosh. Still a great movie, though. Five stars in my book.

I'm not Scottish. I'm English. So I took 5 minutes to find out if the film was historically accurate. Admittedly, some of it was, but most of it was incredibly biased towards whatever Mel felt like at the time. What an arsehole....
Correction: I didn't spend 5 minutes, I spent about 3 hours watching it twice. Good ol' Australian / American Mel manipulating the public with yet another anti-English film, at a time when England are the greatest ally of both the USA and Australia. Maybe it's because most of us in the UK hate the US administration. But then again, I believe the same is now true of most USA citizens.
It wasn't so much an anti-English account as it was a pro-Scottish statement denouncing the political tyranny of the times. It was a particularly brutal time in history. Whatever your opinion of Mel Gibson (I think he's cool) you can't deny that a great deal of the historical details were correct, and that William Wallace was - and is - a true hero of the Scottish people, much like Robin Hood is for the English, but on a different scale.

The part about the Irish helping out the Scots was also false.
It was bollocks, it was not in the least accurate, and its portrayal of the English was obscene given that the 'English oppressors' of the Scots were actually French. But hey, why let truth get in the way.
Voted : yes
GREAT MOVIE
