What about "its" and "it's"? That one drives me NUTS when people get it wrong...
You are correct - your examples are appropriate. You're not an English teacher, are you? My pet peeve is "30 cent" - didn't these people learn their singular vs. plural? It's cents people - cents with an S. Good grief!
I think most people do know the difference, but that in a frenzy to type on their keyboard, they inadvertently use the wrong word. The older generation is more concerned with grammar than younger generations who were born after the advent of the computer age? A lot of my communication with friends is done through txtmsg on my cell phone, so the last thing I'm worried about is using the right words. Like.... r u hngng out l8r -or- s'up. txt me bck wit 411 on flix 2nght. Those aren't official text message abbreviations or anything, but its easier that way and the guy on the other end knows what you mean. Sometimes I think people type in your when they know that it should be you're, but they are in such cyber-mode that they're typing faster than they can really think?? Just a guess.
Well you decide because a lot of you have seen my english skillz:)
There, their, and they're are another three that people have trouble with.
over there. Their right to poo. Theyre = they are Your dog. Youre/you are a dog. correct?
Great ballot. I'm a grammar stickler. C-Tuck, I agree. The worst is one I edited yesterday - its'. HUH? Patch, us elder statesmen might be hung up on grammar, but I notice that yours is pretty damned great!

Thanks Mojo! I make a lot of mistakes. Like is it a lot or alot? And, is it seprate or seperate? I never know on those. My thing is that I'm a bad typer and sometimes just type the wrong word. I know this guy who says "alls." Like he will say "alls I'm saying is........" I wonder if he would actually write "alls" :)
Patch, FYI: A lot Separate

I think it is typos and rushed typing you mainly see. I doubt it has anything to do with grammatical knowledge. That said, my grammar is far from perfect. I guess some people just aren't cut out to be grammatical savants.
By the way, if you have trouble with spelling, you can download the google toolbar as it has a spell check function you can use for things you type in an online form like this.
Your right everybody. Remember: Good grammar is you're responsibility and should never be taken lightly. Their are a lot of intelligent people in here who unfortunately fall prey to not good grammar.
It's not just grammar, most people are complete morons. I have to explain the difference between debit and credit cards on an hourly basis, and tell people that when they make a "deposit" they will get it back. Of course, none of these people speak well, let alone write.
'"alls I'm saying is........" I wonder if he would actually write "alls"' Nah, Patch. I say it like that too (It's Liverpool (scouse) dialect, slang) but I wouldn't type it like that. Unless I was actually trying to type in a Scouse accent. :o)
I've also got a *huge* pet peeve regarding those who can't muster the sense to differentiate "it's" from "its". And I've seen the error from top to bottom, from bad bloggers to screen crawlers on network news broadcasts.
C-Tuck, I didn't see you raising the same point. Sorry to impinge.
AND 'loose' is the opposite of 'tight,' not the opposite of 'win.' Drives me nuts, I tells ya.

well tanks y'all fer putin' yur too cent in. Couldn't ya abin more pacific?
I think grammar should be a rating choice. LCD should ad it, and make it a fixed rating like negative 1 or 2.
Who'da thunk it?
The incorrect use of woman and women has to be misused almost as often. As a woman, speaking on behalf of other women, I wish you luck in getting it right!
Yes the difference is quite easy. I do get confused on who and whom though. I just always use who.
Voted : Yes, I understand the differences clearly
It amazes me too...your question is a great one, it will be sad to see how many people don't know the difference...keep me posted
