IS IT ACCEPTABLE/ CONSTRUCTIVE TO ALLOW PARTY TO CONTROL REACTION?

I've had some interesting discussions with some folks, of late. I have to admit, it is my impression that a lot of people allow party affiliation to control the their reaction to a given politician's behaviour.

For example, in response to a charge of corruption or malfeasance: 'But the OTHER side does it!' To me ... that response makes no sense. Better: You're right, that is unacceptable. Equally unacceptable is when the other side does it.' Note the difference? The first is a tacit acceptance of the bad behaviour.

Many of us also claim to snub both parties and speak of a possible 3rd party option. But again ... I see this in response to a charge/ criticism, which is tacitly accepted.

But perhaps I miss something. Are there constructive reasons to tacitly ignore political corruption, lies, and or malfeasance, based on Party?

Fear that it will empower a worse candidate
Apathy with politics, in general
Feeling of helplessness to have any effect on changing situation
I never can remember my actions after I party.
