The effects of his lie would never have been a major issue outside of his marriage, but you could still make a good argument for the necessity of the move for what it meant symbolically. After all if he would lie about that under oath what else might he lie about? Now Bush has broken the law by ordering domestic wiretaps without warrants. Obviously the rules have been set up for a reason. Someone has to ensure that the President is justly and legally obtaining this information. His recent argument that 9-11 might have been prevented if he had been doing these wiretaps before hand is nothing more than an insult and should be viewed with nothing less than contempt. His actions are a violation of our forth amendment right to privacy. You could just as easily argue that if Bush had put us all under marshal law before the attack that it might not have happened. Since the conservatives are not asking that he be impeached they are being hypocritical and are showing not only partisanship but also flagrant bigotry. In my mind they have now lost credibility.
