The United States is a perfect example, with the beautiful Florida coast being subject to dangerous hurricanes, and the amazing California scenery always threatened by a variety of disasters, from earthquakes, to landslides, wildfires, and more. Should there be a federal tax applied to those areas, a graduated tax based on the number and intensity of disaster related events, to help defray the costs that insurance and the government end up having to cover? Yes, this would be a fair tax given the choice to live in such an area.
