I've heard of this happening ... like supposedly the patient thinks he/she knows more than the doctor, someone who's been studying exactly this for a large chunk of his/her entire life.

Antidepressants can work. I know this for a fact.

If someone seeks help and then deliberately doesn't accept it, and then continues to be depressed and take out their own feelings on others, should you continue to feel sorry for them?

Yes -- they're still suffering.
No -- it's their fault they're still suffering.
