For my money, when I start to think about those pneumatic, curvy girl models of the 1940's and 1950's, Bettie's always the pinnacle. She's just impossibly hot and has a real personality that comes across in all of her photo shoots. Her lack of inhibition, atypical for the era, as in some of her kinkier Irving Klaw stuff, also endears her to me. It's truly astounding to see some of the scenarios depicted in the Klaw catalogue, but Bettie handles it with grace and goodnaturedly. Plus, hell, the woman was/is very intelligent. She was almost admitted to Vanderbilt, and unlike many of the uneducated, annoying sorts one usually sees among old burlesque queens and pin up girls, Bettie's very articulate and has a quick wit and sense of humor. She's gone and gotten religion now, but she still can crack a joke. So, on April 22th, Bettie's birthday, I'm throwing a celebration out on the town for a small group.
