DEBUNKING JESUS??? JESUS COULD HAVE WALKED ON ICE, SCIENTIST SAYS. DID THEY EVEN READ THE STORY???

It appears someone got this story completely WRONG:

Rare conditions could have conspired to create hard-to-see ice on the Sea of Galilee that a person could have walked on back when Jesus is said to have walked on water, a scientist said today.

Doron Nof, a Florida State University Professor of Oceanography, said that temperatures could occur for two days to cause ice to form on the water of a body of water that was once known as the Sea Of Galilee.

*L* Did this scientist even READ the biblical tale before he did his study?

***ATTENTION: THIS IS ASKING ABOUT THE VALIDITY OF THE STORY!! THIS BALLOT DOES NOT ASK IF THE STORY IS TRUE OR FALSE, THIS BALLOT DOES NOT EVEN SUGGEST THAT JESUS EXISTED AS THE SON OF GOD OR NOT. MEANING: DO NOT TURN IT INTO SUCH.***

What this ballot is asking is: what sort of faulty reasoning is it when science sets out to solve a mystery, then does not even look at all the parts of the story when they have supposedly 'debunked' it.

1) 2 days of freezing conditions does NOT create an ice floe strong enough for an adult human male to walk on, trust me, I've fallen thru a few times myself, after nearly two weeks of freezing temperatures.

2) In the story, the boat was: ...far out in the lake, tossed about by the waves, because the wind was blowing against it. A bad storm was tossing the boat around the lake but yet Jesus was able to walk along the water on ice just under the surface, how is that possible?

3) The disciple Peter got out of the boat in an attempt to go to Jesus and fell INTO the water. So Jesus just happened to be on a magical sheet of ice that no one else could find? Hahaha, okay, well, I guess he IS the Son of God, right?

4) Jesus appeared out of no where in the story, even surprising the disciples: ...they saw him walking on the water, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost!” they said, and screamed with fear. So Jesus just walks on this sheet of ice out of thin air and appears to them?

***ATTENTION: Once again this is not a ballot about the validity of Christianity or even the existence of the Son of God, it is about faulty science not taking into account all aspects of a story in their attempt to explain away what could not normally be explained. Did the scientist even READ this story? What possesses a college professor to go out and even write an article like this and call it science when the article doesn't even begin to explain the situation???

faulty science
typical college professor, insulated from the world, doing ignorant things
no it's actual science, you don't have to look at every part of the story, it doesn't matter
WHO CARES??? Jesus was a fraud anyway...
Who cares? preists, catholics, most Jewish people, etc....
The Science is probably as acurate as the bible!
Umm, walking on water in a country that has the Dead Sea isn't that much of a miracle...

COMMENTS:
I believe that the story is complete BS, but that theory is just as stupid.

Science can be used to explain a possible phenomena, similar to one stated in biblical mythology. the "accuracy" of the telling of the myth is irrelevant to the science to explain a possible phenomena that was later greatly twisted into the myth that exist today.

On the other hand the theory also sounds like it is standing on thin ice.

However, I can tell you I experimented as a teenager when we had a fluke freeze here outside of Houston Texas where the lake in our back yard froze over by about 1 inch. I weighed about 185 pounds then and I was able to walk out on the ice pretty far, about 10 feet. It cracked a lot and made weird noises but never actually broke. The Ice froze around and encased large amounts of floating algae which appeared to make it much stronger, like rebar in cement.

So given correct conditions and environmental factors it is possible. Then factor in the idea that if Jesus existed at all it was highly unlikely that he was overweight, probably on the verge of being emaciated and about 5 feet tall

What in the hell? You really have some nerve, what exactly would you be thinking about to put an ignorant ass choice up there that has NOTHING to do with the ballot at hand, considering that if you were to have actually READ the ballot you would see that the existence of Jesus wasn't the question at hand.

I find your choice to add that in your vote to be downright stupid, considering how you bitch at other people for ruining ballots, and worse, subject specific people to banishment from the website based on their political and religious affiliation WAY more so than you do by actual behavior on the site itself. Damn!!

Did you FAIL to read that? How could you miss it? I even fucking wrote it down again just in case at the bottom of the ballot, here it is again:

Jap..
ReLAX, dude!

This is not earth shaking shit, man.
This "story" happened/not 2 thousand yrs. ago.

Are you still taking it seriously??
Smoke some weed, man.

Free UP why dontcha.
Ooops, there go another 5 of my karma points.
oh NO I'm gonna be broke, soon!
Ooooh!
by aplmac on Sun Jul 16, 06 10:45am [+]

It's not about that, I get tired of people trying to be assholes about other people's beliefs, and in this case it's COMPLETELY unwarranted. This wasn't a ballot about Christianity, it was a ballot about faulty science application, I tried to make that clear by what I wrote on the ballot in the first place.

Then you have people just ignore that and bash on like they can't even read, that is really ignorant.
by jappy on Tue Jul 18, 06 6:28am [+]

When was the bible written?
If I'm not mistaken this story was written down long after the death of Jesus!
I'm not saying jesus didn't exsist, or that he ain't the son of god! BUT why would a scientist try to debunk a 2,000 year old story that is based on hearsay and passed down memories?
by Gloryer on Wed Jul 19, 06 6:54am [+]

In can be concluded that Jesus could have done anything since he is mythical figure and never existed.

It can be concluded that you are an illiterate idiot since you obviously cannot read.

If there was ice, you don't need to be the "son of god". Joe Blow from Hoboken could "walk on water".

Why is it that some of you aren't addressing the ballot topic? Instead of saying, hey this guy doesn't know what he's talking about(which he doesn't) or the opposite, all you guys do is bible bash. Try to put your prejudices, hardened hearts and maybe hatred, aside and answer the question for what it is asking.
