The presidential dollar coin program is scheduled to commence on January 1, 2007. It will honor every president that has served since our first, George Washington. A new coin will be released every three months, four per year, on the first of January, the second of April (the mint didn't think it prudent to issue a new coin on April Fool's Day), the fourth of July (to coincide with Independence Day, of course), and October first.

Somewhat coincidentally (and ironically, if I may say so) the George W. Bush coin happens to be the third of its respective year, falling on July 4th, Independence Day.

There is a catch. The United States Mint and Bureau of Printing and Engraving have a tradition of not issuing a coin or stamp with the likeness of a subject that is not dead. The law that provisioned the presidential dollar coin program included a clause that prevents a presidential dollar coin from being released if the president it pictures has not been dead for at least two years.

However, it is likely that the law will be ammended to not simply cancel the release of a coin if the above provision has been met, merely delay it until a time when the requirement has been met.

But if you REALLY want to be sure George Bush is honored, it would be best to assassinate him.

So what do you think about this program which honors EVERY president regardless of his or her contributions to the United States (negative or positive)? On a side note, Grover Cleveland will have TWO coins because his terms in office were not consecutive. Do you think this is unfair considering other more esteemed presidents such as Washington, Jefferson, and Lincoln will only get one?

And yes, Bill Clinton also has a coin scheduled. If he dies in time, it will be released on April 2, 2017.

Back to the original question though: if all goes as planned, will you use the George W. Bush presidential dollar when it is released into circulation? What about collect it along with the others like many do with the state quarter program?

No.
Yes, but only for spending.
Yes, I will collect it.
Yes, but only to buy cocaine and beer
Yes, but only to pay off debt
should be on paper for handy dandy toilet use.
The dollar will be worthless by then
If the dollar is worthless by then, it will be a hilarious point...
