I have to go with Elvis. His movies just sucked ass. They had that lame boring storyline. Singers are singers. Athletes are athletes. Neither singers, nor athletes make good actors.
Judged purely by quality of movie - Elvis. Judged by ratio of quality of actor: quality of movie, Brando. A HUGE acting talent who gave us 10% of potential. Whereas Elvis was a bloke with an IQ of 70 who was able to sing like a black man and wiggle his hips. And not much else....
of HIS potential, I meant to say about Marlon. Lucky Marlon. There are a lot of incredibly talented people out there whose talent goes totally unnoticed and/or wasted.
Like Johnny Depp. He's definately wasting his talent with those kiddy movies.
Thank Christ for the few moments where Brando actually delivered: Streetcar, On The Waterfront, Godfather, Apocalypse... Elvis was a hack, simply a white boy imitating BB King, Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf etc... (with added hip flares) As for his films? Simply a chance for him to exercise his mediocre vocal cords and make out with countless lovelies, not to mention $$$. Still, they both could have held the title of Worlds Fattest Man late in their lives.
Elvis. He put out a looooong string of turkeys. Amazingly enough, every single Elvis movie made money.
My 60's Brando favorites are ONE EYED JACKS and THE UGLY AMERICAN. I'd say his worst flicks of that period were COUNTESS FROM HONG KONG and REFLECTIONS IN A GOLDEN EYE. Bottom line, Brando at his worst couldn't touch Elvis. The 60's Elvis films are bad--amazingly bad. They're so bad that they're great. The string of Elvis 60's movies beginning with G.I. BLUES and ending with CHANGE OF HABIT are beyond terrible, yet if I ever happen to land on one while I'm surfing I find myself watching, unable to change the channel. If I hit a bad Brando movie I just surf on, but I can't resist those stupid Elvis films.
Elvis, hands down. They stand as proof positive than singers shouldn't act. Bill Shatner is the corollary of that.
Elvis. Should have been making music, not cheesy teenybopper flicks. Viva Las Vegas....
