best : technology : LCD OR PLASMA, WHICH IS THE SUPERIOR SLIMLINE TV TECHNOLOGY?

Plasma has recently caught up with lcd in terms of longevity with new ways of sealing in the gas, I find when I compare like for like on display that the plasma has a smoother, sharper and more natural image, though I have to admit, the new high definition lcds seem to be right up there for image quality.

The lcd is also a lot lighter, more robust, and uses about half the power of the plasmas, which have to transported upright and can be damaged quite easily.

Which would you choose if you were to buy one tomorrow?

Plasma gives better viewing quality, IMO, but the things get damn hot. (Duh, Truth- the *name*?) I tend to fall asleep with the TV on. Doing so with a plasma equals Richard Pryor's favorite elemental force.

Apparently plasma gives a superior image, with better contrast, black levels, etc... I'd go with a plasma if I had to make the decision. Image quality is important to me, since I'm a movie nut.

I bought a new television about 3 years ago. I decided then to go with a conventional CRT (Cathode Ray Tube,) because they produce the best picture quality of all the formats--at least they did 3 years ago. The main disadvantage of CRTs is of course the weight. Mine weighs over 200 pounds -- but I have a good spot for it, so it doesn't matter.

I'll take a Plasma.

LCD's has been known to banish people, be hypocritcal, tempermental, overbearing, two faced, politcally correct, non-objecive and petty.
