COMMENTS:
Was he kidding himself, psychotic, foolish, stupid, idiotic, or the myriad of other names users on here have called religious people? Or can those who are deeply religious make achievements and contributions to society as well as atheists? Perhaps they can be just as intelligent as non-believers?
by texsue57 on Thu Apr 20, 06 4:05pm [+]

Religious belief doesn't make someone retarded automatically.

Sure some people of low intelligence will believe because they will never know any better but others are simply misguided, ill-informed or subject to brainwashing at an early age.

People of any religion have been totally and completely lied to - and deliberately misinformed too.

As a former Christian I can safely say that if people were actually aware of what Biblical scholars know about the origins of Christianity they would be shocked into disbelief.

Religion is far from being a benevolent force in our lives - it is a malign, destructive, devisive, bigoted, and pernicious lie that provides such little benefit to humankind it is a wonder that it is still acceptable to follow a religion.
by wideheadofknowledge on Thu Apr 20, 06 4:14pm [+]

Religious beliefs should not be held against anyone unless the holder tries to impose them on others.

Dr. King did not try to impose anything on anyone; he tried to free us all from bigotry.

From a strictly rational perspective, beliefs about something which can be neither proven nor disproven is perhaps indicative of a failure of intellect.

Or not.
by xxxxxxxx on Thu Apr 20, 06 4:15pm [+]

Now, if a religious person claims an EXPERIENCE of God in a certain way, well then, it would be stupid of him to believe otherwise, no?
by xxxxxxxx on Thu Apr 20, 06 4:16pm [+]

widehead so according to you over half of the world is and i quote "of low intelligence, misguided and or brainwashed"

But you of course are the one with all the answers.

give me a break !
by babcia on Thu Apr 20, 06 4:57pm [+]

Im not sure Widehead actually said what you are accusing him of. You really ought to pay more attention what people actually say, insteadwhat you believe they said.

If the answers scare you, then cease asking scary questions.

You may believe totally in a god figure, but ask yourself, does it make you a better person, or someone prone to react badly when your faith is in anyway questioned?
by Steelhamster on Thu Apr 20, 06 5:06pm [+]

^ O so now im "believing" things ok, i guess im just a brainwashed loonatic.

Please be so kind as to tell me what widehead is "actualy" saying because because i clearly dont get it seeing as im of "low intelligence"

O i love this one "Religious belief doesn't make someone retarded automatically" so when does one become retarded after a month or so ? am i already retarded or not yet ?
by babcia on Thu Apr 20, 06 5:16pm [+]

My fault again, I guess, for not being clearer.

I mean that if someone has a religious belief it may well not be due to low intelligence. We can't automatically jump to that conclusion.

We can conclude, however, that holders of religious beliefs fall into one of the following categories: Uneducated or ill-informed. Unintelligent, brainwashed or misguided. And finally, deluded or insane

There is no other rational explanation.

I can categorically stste babcia that I do not believe you to be retarded - simply ill-informed and unwilling to look at the evidence.
by wideheadofknowledge on Thu Apr 20, 06 5:30pm [+]

^ just because something is not rational to you, you can not automatically rule it out as nonsense. Not everything in this world comes with a scientific explenation and you for one should understand that.

I believe what i choose to believe whether it be rational to society or not, do i find myself ill informed ? No because i do see the evidence and rational even though some may not.

Let me remind you that you have no evidence to back your theories therfore you can do nothing more than assume.
by babcia on Thu Apr 20, 06 5:46pm [+]

"People of any religion have been totally and completely lied to - and deliberately misinformed too."

Speak for yourself and your experiences with religion not everyone else. Just because this is your experience does not make you the all knowing "god" on this issue. Your other comments betray an extremely arrogant attitude on this issue. Not that I am surprised.

No evidence for my theories about what?
by wideheadofknowledge on Thu Apr 20, 06 10:00pm [+]

human rights have nbothing to do with religion. I'm not religious yet I believe black people and white people are equal.
In fact all people are equal, were all one.

All things can be explained scientifically given emough time.

If we were to try and explain cloning, space traveland television to a renaissance man, we would be looked on with skepticism.

Just because we dont have all the answers right now, does not know we will know more 100 years from now.

As humans evolve, superstition becomes more and more redundant.
by Steelhamster on Fri Apr 21, 06 4:06am [+]

"To each his own." I admire Dr King, not only for the stance he took on the necessary issues of his time, but also for the faith in Deity he had throughout.
by Truthseeker013 on Fri Apr 21, 06 1:56pm [+]

Men can use religion for good or evil just the same as they use science for both good and evil. To call religion evil is ignorance, because you would then have to call science evil, for making the atomic bomb.
