Note: Those figures are for 2005.
It's not fair, it's discriminatory. The government assumes that senior citizens need less than the youth. Well, the government is wrong. It forgets that some people need more than others. It forgets that some senior citizens can't afford medicare because they aren't covered. What a beautiful world we live in.
No, but who gives a rat's ass about the poor in America these days. It is all their fault they are poor and they are all a bunch of lazy welfare bums. Of course I am being sarcastic, but that is how many look at it.
Don't they have less taxes stolen out and get lots of discounts. The difference is probably due to differences in purchasing power.
No. I believe there was an argument that they had fewer work-related expenses, typically being in retirement. However, in a private healthcare system, such savings are more than offset by rising healthcare costs.
^The healthcare system in this country is anything but private. However, I did not take into account their greater medical expenses, that would probably bring their poverty level way up.
