Currently, research is being conducted to develop robots that can be dropped down a drilled hole along with a vertical conveyor belt and start grinding up the coal deposits. The coal will then be pushed out behind the robot and be forced into the rotating conveyor belt, which will bring the coal up in small scoops. The robots have a titanium grinding cylander that will chop up the coal and spit it out behind it. The back of the robot will be attached to a small plow so that the robot can reverse direction and push the coal onto the conveyor belt.
