Duke Rape Case E-mail Shocker

APRIL 5--Shortly after an exotic dancer claimed she was raped at a Duke University lacrosse team party, a member of the squad sent an e-mail announcing that the following night he planned "to have some strippers over" and would be "killing the bitches" as soon as they walked into his dorm room. Disclosure of the e-mail came today with the unsealing of a March 27 search warrant for the residence of Ryan McFadyen, a sophomore lacrosse player. The e-mail from McFadyen's account notes that, after the strippers were killed, they would be skinned while the author was "cumming in my duke issue spandex." (The Smoking Gun)

McFayden was then suspended from the University. McFayden is white. The dancers were black.

Was suspending this student justified, given the circumstances, or was this simply another PC over-reaction because of the race issue and a denial of McFayden's free speech rights?

I think it was probably right to suspend him,I dont think it was meant as a racist letter,coz what he wrote is not a good thing,considering the legal situation his fellow members are facing!

Hmm, actually the "threat" of violence contained within the e-mail would probably justify an investigation, but the question is, what right did they have to look in his e-mail account at all? Im not sure we have been given all the facts here.

By the way the term "reverse racism" is actually inherently racist in itself.
It suggests that racism is by definition white on black, and black on white racism is the reverse situation.

Racism is racism, whatever the colour of the victim.

As I said before, this only proves that humanity ought to be put on cosmic most-wanted posters. Free speech is one thing, but stupidity in the face of a firestorm is intolerable. The greatest crime here is that there's nothing, no one word or phrase, that can evoke the same evisceral response of anger as his words did.
