I have a friend whose birthday is coming up soon, and she is a vegan. Clearly I know that anything involving meat or leather is out. What is a good gift for a vegan. I'm being serious, so please refrain from comments like "leather jacket" or "Omaha Steaks gift certificate".

Depends on how good a friend. If she has a garden get her a portable greenhouse to grow some of her own in. Assuming she hasnt got one. You could get soil, pots and seeds too.

A vegan cookbook.

My brother is vegan and in the past I have treated him to:
vegan biscuits and cakes,
non-leather belts,
non-leather Doc Marten boots (hard to get), vegan cookbooks, books on ethics and meat eating etc...

and of course all the other crap that you can buy that has nothing to do with animals.

Oh yes and Meat is Murder on CD by The Smiths. He loved that one. The big flouncing queen.

I think a gift card to an all natural market would be great, because then she could buy what she wants. Vegan's are tough. My cousin is a Vegan and she can never eat ANYTHING! It makes me nuts! Hey! Buy her some whole grains... Vegans love those.
