COMMENTS:
This is a definite role reversal since Iraq. Nonetheless, it is silly to get egos involved in such a dangerous situation.
The idiots will try to interpret this as American belligerence.
The U.S. (i.e., Uber-Bush) is simply trying to manipulate the rest of the world, in two ways: 1) By leveraging U.S. intransigence into forcing other nations into a coalition of the unwilling, and: 2) By delaying, and hindering, negotiations, making the U.S.'s desired result, military intervention, more likely. Uber-Bush's intent is an invasion of Iran. Ultimately, like Iraq, he will trump up whatever excuse he can. However, his newfound (since the failure of Iraq unilateralism) reluctance to go it alone, may make him impotent, and his scheme will probably fail.
Surface irony, sure. The problem though, is that these are two extremes -- US unilateral or International -- without direct US involvement. As is usually the case when dealing with extremes, neither is particularly good. PS: One shouldn't read this as incredible irony, since the Bush Admin is holding tru to form and basically refusing to involve itself in anything that remotely resembles real diplomacy.
Diplomacy has little chance unless the US is involved. This is the key dodge that the Bush Admin tries to cloud, as it insists for 'International involvement.'
