It's not the technology itself we have a problem with, it's simply who has it. We're ok with britain and france having arsenals.
This question has been brought up before. Logically, yes, it is hypocritical for the U.S. to presume some divine right to nuclear weapons, as well as the right to determine whether or not other countries should be permitted to have them.
But realistically, there is a very significant danger that Iran could sell nuclear weapons or nuclear material to people bent on destroying the United States or our allies. For example, the Iranian president has been widely quoted as saying: "Israel should be wiped off the map." That doesn't inspire confidence.
It will take years before Iran will have the ability to have nukes. The people in charge of America just want to get into Iran and other Middle Eastern countries and use this as an excuse just like the so-called weapons of mass destruction.

That's a valid point, but it's sadly also true (probably more so) of the US administration.

Do you know ANY country that wants it's enemy's to have nuclear weapons.
The USA has signed many international agreements to curb the spread of nuclear weapons. And to ensure that those that have them, and have them in the future, are countries with a stable, responsible, non-agressive, peaceful forms of government. NOT anti-west, anti-democratic, terrorists countries that are a threat to peace and the rest of the world.
(maybe even more dangerous than Saddam was..)

At the risk of sounding cynical, I don't believe the US is interetsed in stopping the Iranian program -- I believe it is a convenient pretext upon which to launch an invasion.

Iran is already fighting against us. If you think they are not, your full of crap. I just got back from Iraq, I worked in a detention facility and believe me, Iran is fighting us in this war already. If they can use nukes then they will. It is not a question of if, it is a question of when.
