Gotta say ... from where I sit, the problem appears to be that folks along the Southern border are brown and/or poor.
Some people think that ALL brown-skinned or poor people are potential terrorists.
As far as the Canadian border goes, i think it has more to do with drug smuggling, i wish them luck trying to secure a 6000 mile border, anyone who has ever seen the border knows its impossible unless you have 30000 troops and invest $100 billion on a fence

I think its pretty obvious isnt it? Canada has one of the highest standards of living in the world, thus people have far less incentive to emmigrate. Dont seek racism where there is none.
Anything where minorities are involved is immediately deemed racism. The fact is canada is cooperating with the US. THey screen who gets in to their country same as we do. Their government isn't sending millions of illegal immigrants across the border every year. Oh but they're white and mexicans are brown, so all other factors get tossed out and it must be solely about racism.
To most people it is about national security on many levels.
It has little if anything to do with race.
As I've repeated in other places, as said by a friend in another group I frequent, it's nothing more than Smokescreen v2.0, something to divert our collective attention from the salient issues. As long as there are people willing to do the scut work that we "Americans" are unwilling to take on, there will be those willing to make a way for them to come in and be comfy, so that cheap labor remains viable.
No Bush is only interested in it because he wants to be seen as trying to do something. Plus it might help with his low approval ratings or as Jay leno put it “disapproval ratings” But America still has the right to protect its boarder.
