I would have to say extreme liberalism is not a mental disorder, rather a symptom exhibited by the individual afflicted. This observation comes with a caveat, extremism in any form may indicate mental illness meaning no one is immune.

I know that quote, it's from Michael Savage. I want to ask him: "Is that your professional opinion, Dr. Savage? Would you enlighten us all by describing, a la DSM-IV, the symptoms of this disorder? What treatment options are there?"
That guy is a great preacher of politics; too bad he has the emotional and intuitive intelligence of a 4 year-old, and never comes to any sort of concrete conclusion or solution about modern issues that is constructive.

Actually, Box, a "mental disorder" requires a frame of reference. For example, whenever a psychologist diagnoses someone with a particular "disorder" he is actually comparing that person with a model of "sane" provided by his education and socialization.
There is no objective standard for "normal," so you either buy in or you don't. Most folks do.
It is instructive to remember that the most creative, intelligent, compassionate, and informed of our society are often seen as "oddballs" by the mainstream.
Similarly, conservatives often see "liberals" as suffering from "mental disorder." Lacking the ability to experience the full range of human knowledge and experience, conservatives simply CANNOT understand the enlightened world of the liberal.
To begin to see the liberal universe, one must first lift their head from the trough of human consumption and behold the stars of the beautiful universe around us.

MENTAL DISORDER: Mental illness (or Emotional disability, Cognitive dysfunction) is a broad generic label for a category of illnesses that may include affective or emotional instability, behavioral dysregulation, and/or cognitive dysfunction or impairment.
