WHICH PAT: LIBERTY OR DEATH?

[+] ballot by Cathexis
ACTIVE Fri May 19, 06 - Tue Nov 04, 08

During recent confirmation hearings for the CIA director candidate (May 2006), US Senator Pat Roberts (R-KS) recently asserted 'I am a strong supporter of the First Amendment, the Fourth Amendment and civil liberties, but you have no civil liberties if you are dead.'

Now ...

Patrick Henry once said 'Give me liberty or give me death.'

Pat Roberts has basically said 'Take my liberty and spare me death.' *

With which Pat would *you* agree most?

* Comparison 1st posted on AmericaBlog.

Pat Roberts: Don't give me Death, you can have my Liberty!
Pat Henry: Give me Liberty or give me Death!

Roberts ... what an unpatriotic wuss!

To get a fix on Pat Roberts, you must first remember that he was one of only nine senators who voted against the anti-torture legislation.

And this neo-nazi is the CHAIRMAN of the Senate Intelligence Committee! Wonder what he would reveal on the rack?

Roberts arguments are falsely framed by the press as a battle between fighting terrorists and protecting civil liberties, as though there were no way to conduct intelligence aggressively without violating the law.

What will it take for elected Democrats to boil with the same outrage at the Bush Administration's contempt for the Constitution that their own constituents feel? Does Bush have to hit negative numbers in the polls? Does a third party movement have to threaten to catch fire? In a country where fifty million people vote for an American Idol, is it inconceivable that at least as many citizens who care about the rule of law could pump some Viagra into our limp leadership?
