MINISTERS TAKING ADVANTAGE OF A CAPTIVE AUDIENCE

I recently attended a funeral of a colleagues Grandmother , it was a religious service which is fine, but the minister went from eulogizing and telling what a better place the deceased was now in to a full blown church service, directed his sermon and soul saving at those attending the funeral.

He even attempted to make a joke about gay marriages, saying “death is something we can be certain of, this used to be true with marriage, a bond between man and women, but in to days world , some people want to make it between man and man or women and women.” He got a little chuckle from some, little Jesus forgive them from others.

For the record, I do believe in God, I just have problems with organized religion, but everyone has the right to believe as they wish, I have no problem with that.

How do you feel about ministers who take advantage of a captive audience such as a funeral?

It's fine, it's all about soul saving
not fine
They get weirder & weirder..
It's the right time

Yea, that seems like it was in poor taste at best. Eulogies should never go on longer than they have to, particularly if the person starts ad-libbing.

When Christian clergy preach funeral services, they seem to think it a grand opportunity to harvest a few souls. I mean, what better opportunity to put the fear and guilt on the gathering and pull in a few sheaves?

Still, it disgusts me.

It's not that they are taking advantage or taking captive an audience. they are taking the oppertunity to cause those there to reflect on thier mortality and wanting them to make sure they are ready for thier time of death. they are just not wanting you to end up in hell. in most cases they are doing it out of love not just to tick any body off. this is the only time that most people will even let a christian even explain thier eternal destination and actually have them listen. so again in my opinion it is the perfect time :-)
