No, I'm not referring specifically to George W. Bush, though he does serve to illustrate my point. Is it possible for any one person to be responsible and wise enough to wield the enormous amount of power--certainly not excluding military power--that the President has?

At the founding of this country, the President held a degree of power over about 3 million people. Now there are 300 million people in the United States over which the President has power. Say, hypothetically, our population reaches 800 million. Is it reasonable to have one person lording over such a vast number of people?

I have a radical idea: Perhaps the power of the President should be divided between 3 people or more. I know that would create problems of its own, but my personal contention is that no one person should have so much power to influence the country and the rest of the entire world. What do you think?

No ... at least, the amount of power he is seeking to usurp shouldn't be vested in any one person.

Unfortunately, President Bush has made a sham out of 'presidential' powers. As I have stated before on B and W, Bush would be a dictator if possible. Hopefully, there are enough failsafes in our government that will prevent that from happening. I cannot think of any president, in my lifetime, that has attempted to abuse his authority as much as Bush. We are spread dangerously thin militarily, our economy is in the toilet, we have invaded a small country, and this war is costing us millions a day, not to mention the lives lost. All we hear from Bush is how great the economy is and how we are winning this (his) war.
