COMMENTS:
if the vote comes out at over 50% they will, the vote came out 49-51% last time it won't, it would be a shame if they did separate though, mind you Quebec is a drain on the rest of Canada, its what we call a "have not" province that is propped up by the others.

I think it will happen, sooner or later.
Quebec nationalists will try, again and again, to secede from the rest of Canada. Will they succeed? I don't think so. We fought a war over this issue, and look what happened: We have had second thoughts about it ever since. @:>)
According to Jacques Parrizeau, As long as we have the "Jews and the ethnic vote" in Montreal, Quebec will not become a country.
I would welcome a move toward Quebec independence if it got the support in a referendum. But, at the moment, it seems opinion polls suggest that there would not be a majority vote for it. But opinion polls can be inaccurate sometimes. I hope it does get independence, so that it can protect its culture.
I would be in favour for Quebec independence if we could get a guarantee that we wouldn't have to financially assist them once they leave. That province has been a drain on the economy for decades. I don't see things improving once they get independence.
ClosetIguana- I hear that Quebec (and Ontario even more so for that matter) are the ones being drained of capital, in order to support the federal structure.
Well your assertion rings hollow. The Conservatives took seats at Liberal expense. The nationalists lost seats and Harper has been wooing Quebecers now ever since he was sworn in. They never had a majority and are extremely not likely to get one now that the Canadian economy is doing so well.
Socrates Re:CTV May 11, 2006 As a "have not" province, Quebec gets funds from the equalization program, designed originally in the 1950s to ensure that Canadians across the country had comparable levels of education and health services at comparable levels of taxation. Ontario and Alberta are Canada's two main "have" provinces, with Ontario contributing about $5 billion towards the $11.3 billion program in 2005.
Quebec try to separate from Canada. Quebec's First Nation try to separate from Quebec to rejoin Canada. Quebec say you are not allow to separate from us. The rest of Canada see the irony.
