This also reind sme of a science-fiction short story by Greg Benford called "Ordinary Alien", in which the aliens came to Earth as missionaries, on behalf of Jehovah's Witnesses, Baptists and Moslems, to name a few. I recommend it.

Most humans are quite primitive to the aliens of space. Likewise human religions. All 'missionaries' should stay at home, on planet Earth.
