People claim "abortion is murder." Okay, fine. I can understand that logic. Under this logic, we can also assume that murder is a bad thing.

If these people had their way, they would make abortion illegal, meaning that it would naturally be considered first-degree murder since it was quite obviously premeditated.

This same core of people tend to support the death penalty. One cannot argue, whether for or against the death penalty, that it is also murder. It is an act of putting an otherwise living person to death.

Basically, under these people's ideal situation, an abortion doctor can perform an abortion, be arrested because "abortion is murder," and again, murder is wrong, and sentenced to the death penalty, i.e. murdered.

Folks, in a system of laws, either murder is good or it's bad. Is it hypocritical that the main core of people who are so fervently against abortion are also equally as fervent for the death penalty?

Yes, very hypocritical.
No, because unborn babies should be protected before all else.
No, because killing those who are already alive is fun.

I see your point CT, but I disagree.

The death penalty is a punishment, someone who committed a very serious crime and is getting what they deserve.

Whereas I think we can all agree that fetuses are free of any guilt?

It's like saying can you support spanking your child when he has done something wrong, and likewise oppose beating him just for the hell of it.

I know what you mean, but the main argument that I hear in opposing abortion is, "Abortion is murder." Those three words. Usually not even drawn out. If they said something along the line of, "Give the baby a chance," I'd be more willing to separate the two.

CT: but murder is different than simply killing someone. Killing in self-defense isn't murder. Carrying out a legal execution isn't murder, neither is euthanasia (well, it shouldn't be anyway) or deaths caused by accident, etc.

So there is a distinction between 'murder' as they mean it, and a state execution.

It's that "eye for an eye" thing...

But the majority of these people, herzog, claim to be against killing because they claim it's a sin. If that's the case, the death penalty is also killing someone, which would conversely be a sin, punishment or not. I understand there's a difference, and I recognize the difference from my perspective, but it's still killing someone one way or the other.

Again, if their argument was that "babies should have a chance," it wouldn't be so hypocritical.

It's almost like they're saying that killing someone is wrong unless they approve of it first.
