We send people to war to defend our freedom - dead soldiers died protecting our freedom, etc, etc. Looking at what is going on in Iraq and Afghanistan, I find it hard to see how the freedom of the West is being defended by the actions of the Western governments and Western armies. In Afghanistan at least, I would like to believe that in part we are helping the Afghan people rebuild their country and gain a little freedom for themselves within the context of their own culture and religion. But I am not sure that I can trust all the political rhetoric. This being said, what does freedom mean to you, seriously?
